What to Expect When You Race at the Kennedy Space Center

The upcoming Kennedy Space Center Space Rae 3K Walk/Run is scheduled to be hosted on Friday, January 19, 2024, right at the exciting Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex on Merritt Island. This is a race designed for friendly competition that also promotes a stronger community spirit. The race winds its way through the inspiring Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex showing incredible sights and is an activity that brings locals and visitors together alike. Top Race Route Attractions

When you sign up to participate in the Kennedy Space Center Space Race 3K Walk/Run event in Orlando, you’ll find yourself on a race route that winds its way through the historic Rocket Garden. This area showcases nine authentic rockets to admire before athletes continue on through the booster stack that leads to the entryway to the Space Shuttle Atlantis. Running or walking through the iconic Heroes & Legends exhibit is sure to thrill while the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame portion of the race is equally intriguing. Participants will also enjoy time running or walking by the Mercury 7 mural. All-in-all, it promises to be a race route you simply won’t forget!

Race Logistics and Awards

This 1.86-mile race is an experience that has athletes returning to participate year after year with good reason. Timing and scoring for the race are managed by the Running Zone using innovative chip technology. Awards for top finishers will be given out in both the men’s and women’s categories as well as adult and youth age groups. If you’re one of the winners, you’ll enjoy the added honor of receiving your race award from a veteran NASA astronaut. Once the winners are named, all participants are invited to come and enjoy a fun after-party in the Rocket Garden. There will be food and beverages for everyone to enjoy on-site.

Registration Information for Participants

Adults who are interested in entering the Kennedy Space Center Space Race 3K Walk/Run will have until December 31, 2023, to register for just $35. The race is also open to athletes 12 years of age and under. Those registering in the youth category can participate for $20 per athlete. If you happen to miss the December 31 deadline, you can still register between January 1, 2024, and January 18, 2024, at an increased rate. During this timeframe, adult registration is $40 per person, and children 12 and under are $25. Same-day registration prices jump to $45 for adults and $30 for kids. Everyone who registers to participate will receive a complimentary race shirt and a free beer or wine at the race after-party.

A Race to Feel Great About Participating In

Beyond the fact that this race is always fun for athletes, it’s also an event you can feel great about participating in. That’s because proceeds from the race are put towards benefiting the United Way of Brevard. These funds help more than 82,000 people living in poverty with registration fees and donations put back towards supporting community efforts to fight homelessness, hunger, and domestic violence. Race spectators are encouraged to give a $5 donation to contribute to these community efforts.
